Why join ACTSCA?
ACTSCA represents the school canteens of the ACT and is the
only organisation to do so. It has the support of 80%
of canteens in the Territory, and its committee comprises mostly
canteen managers, who are well aware of the day-to-day issues
of running a canteen.
As a member you are sent a newsletter at the start of each
term with information on issues that will affect your
canteen, events coming up and new ideas.
ACTSCA provides information on:
- menu planning
- planning and presenting special theme days
- food and recipe ideas
- approved registered products
- price comparisons
- volunteers
- policy development
- employment
- long service leave entitlements
- finance & profitability
- food safety
- marketing & promotion
- OH&S
- NoWaste 2010
ACTSCA recognises the importance of competency based professional
development for canteen staff and initiated CAPACT (Canteen
Administration Program ACT). ACTSCA administered and
managed CAPACT and worked in a successful partnership with
the Heart Foundation (ACT Division) and the Departments of
Education and Health to maintain CAPACT since 2003.
ACTSCA offers its members the opportunity to network with
other canteen staff. This can be through informal area meetings,
which can arranged by committee members or at events organised
by ACTSCA like trade expos and CAPACT training days.
ACTSCA provides help to P&C/P&F Associations and canteen
committees to employ staff to operate the canteen. The
service offered (at a nominal charge) includes proformas for
placing the ad., preparing the job description and duty statement
and being in attendance at the job interview. ACTSCA
WILL NOT DIRECT OR INTERFERE IN ANY WAY with the decision making
process.
